We are thrilled to announce that the Saturday night headliner at ProgStock 2019 will be BRAND X! With founders John Goodsall\u00a0<\/strong>(Gtr) & Percy Jones <\/strong>(Bass) still at the helm, they\u2019ve reached some new peaks with Keyboardist Chris Clark<\/strong>, Percussionist Scott Weinberger<\/strong>, and Drummer Kenny Grohowski\u00a0<\/strong>each bringing their own unique artistry to make Brand X such a unique live act.<\/p>\n

BRAND X finished off 2018 with a bang, touring from the Mid-West to the North-East (USA), releasing a new live DVD edited and mixed by Stephen W. Tayler (Real World Studios), and releasing a new live album as well, culled from their headlining performance on the opening night of RoSFest 2018.<\/p>\n

Brand X is proud to have been selected to play on \u201cCRUISE TO THE EDGE\u201d with YES, <\/strong>February 4-9, 2019, where they did three shows, and now ProgStock, October 11-13, 2019.<\/p>\n

Founding Member\/Guitarist John Goodsall<\/strong>: \u201cEvery tour we\u00a0<\/em>add some new songs and change some things around for a fresh new show. Some of these songs we haven\u2019t played in ages \u2013 and some never before at all \u2013 and now we\u2019re starting to work on writing some new material as well for a forthcoming album.\u201d
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe band are playing exceptionally well live, so we\u2019ve recorded a new live DVD and a new live album to document it.\u201d <\/em>says Manager Norman Bedford<\/strong>.\u201cThey\u2019re breathing new life into some timeless music in a way I\u2019ve rarely seen \u2013 every night on stage they do something differently, and it\u2019s all very exciting to watch.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The original seeds were sown many years ago in London as players in a studio band for many of Brian Eno\u2019s<\/strong>infamous solo albums.\u00a0 Drummer Phil Collins\u00a0<\/strong>and Bassist Percy Jones\u00a0<\/strong>got to know each other through those sessions.\u00a0 Later Jones and John<\/strong>Goodsall\u00a0<\/strong>officially formed Brand X.\u00a0Bill Bruford\u00a0<\/strong>even played a few shows in Brand X — but was complicated by commitments with King Crimson\u00a0<\/strong>and his own band Bruford<\/strong>, so it wasn\u2019t long before Collins was locked in behind the Brand X kit.<\/p>\n

Brand X would sign with Genesis\u2019s management company and they were off and running.\u00a0 They played several festival dates along with Genesis,\u00a0<\/strong>like the infamous Knebworth Fest in England.\u00a0 With their first three albums \u201cUnorthodox Behaviour<\/strong>\u201d, \u201cMoroccan Roll<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cLivestock<\/strong>\u201d, many critics hailed Brand X as a new path for the future.\u00a0 In a 1978 poll in England\u2019s NME, Brand X were ranked first, above The Sex Pistols,\u00a0<\/strong>as new band of the year. In a sense they truly were at the forefront of the Jam-Band\/Fusion sound.\u00a0 Today the band carries with it more Funk and Rock, but the improvised Jazz sections are still pure heaven.<\/p>\n

Phil Collins balanced playing simultaneously in Genesis and Brand X for the early years \u2013 an act he handled well \u2013 and some claim some of Collins best work appears on those Brand X albums.\u00a0Collins once explained his love for the energy and freedom created by Brand X thusly: \u201cGenesis was like my wife, but Brand X was like this hot mistress — with big bazongas!\u201d
